Reason for participating It's been a long time since I've truly felt fit and healthy or myself, I just remember a much different guy that has been gone a long time. I miss being him.
Goals To really lean up, increase stamina and cardio, compete in some local road races and maybe even climb back into the cage and fight again, it's been over 12 years.
Activity level slow going easing back into a routine
Meal planning I read about the latest meal plans and review them with my wife who happens to be a RD, LD
I'm a former athlete wanting to drop the former part. I had been athletic and competitive most of my life, from track, boxing, mixed martial arts, power lifting etc. Back in my single days I had lots of time to play and train hard and then party hard. Now life has slowed down and free time has dried up. I became a father first time in the summer of 2010, attempted this contest then but hadn't fully adjusted to my new life and responsiblities. I'm starting to figure out the delicate balance to fit in things I want to do to reach my goals. I'm 38 but I feel like a young at heart 38. There was a period in my life after losing my brother to a car accident in 1998 that I lost my heart, my motivation, I can't really explain it. He inspired me to go after my goals and made me believe in myself. After I lost him I was a lost soul just getting by. I met my wife in the spring of 2004 and we were married in the fall of 2006. We have lots of love for each other and both of our goals was to start a family. It took time but in the spring of 2010 we were blessed with a health baby boy, Elijah Michael! Michael is in honor of my late brother and Elijah is my new found inspiration to become the best me ever, to become a man he's proud of and inspires him to achieve, because he has all the potential in the world and Team Franzen is unstoppable if we set our minds to something. I want my wife to see my hunger to be a better man, a better head of the family and the kind of guy that's been knocked down to a dark cold place and climbed back up and lived to fight another day. I've been up and down in ever way shape and form in ever facet of my life and I truly feel I'm in my greatest victory period now. So that's what I'm about, not the angry young man I use to be but a wiser, hungrier, motivated guy ready to take control of my life and health. I'm ready to do something great!

Nice job on the weight loss, how is the body fat coming?
  • By mandirigma44 on March 21, 2012 2:34pm

Body fat been dropping as well, I'm just not sure if the percentage is correct. I'd like to get hydrostatic dunk tested to know where it's at closer. With the 2 methods that MM offers I've been dropping appoximately a half % per week s every 2 weeks maybe 1% of better. Always adjusting. Thanks bro!

another goal I've had longer than any other and was never able to accomplish because of how much my body weight was is I want to at least once in my life bench press double my body weight. Being 200 plus for the past 10-15 years that was gonna be pretty tough. My life time best was 365 lbs but I weighed 228 lbs at the time. I plan to drop my body weight down and get my muscles as strong as ever, get down to 180 lbs by the end of this leg of my lifes journey and bench press something in theneighborhood of 360-375. This has been an illusive goal but now I have a new plan of attack and more drive than ever!

added a measurements sheet scan to my photos, realize another goal, to balance out my measurements right and left. I mean come on, there shouldn't be a half inch difference between my right and left biceps! Plus what is up with love handles when they don't even match? I guess they have to go and they won't leave by me sittin here typin on a keyboard, time to do some work!

I have multiple mini goals on my way to the end goal, all the mini goals will probably adjust as they approach. I set my goals the day before I official entered this challenge. by Feb 4th 2012 I plan to be down to 215 pounds and body fat around 20% from my current 29.8%. By my 39th birthday on March 3rd I'd like to be 205 pounds and maybe around 18-15% bodyfat. The end goal at this time is 180-185 with 9-13% bodyfat, but that will hopefully change to something even better, and offcourse everybody in this contest's goal is to be the champion, that's what we are all here for is to push each other to greatness!
