Hi!
Welcome to my bio! My name is Marie. I am very excited about this Maxformation contest for several reasons! Of course the obvious one is that I want to live a healthier life and be a better example to my children and I am ready to put my plan in action. I want to be forty and fabulous in September instead of forty and frumpy! A few other reasons I’m excited, is that I think it’s awesome that we all have the opportunity and freedom to do such a thing. I LOVE a good challenge as well (especially when people you know don’t believe you’re capable of accomplishing such things). Oh yes, and who could forget the cashola involved?! We all love money, and what an awesome motivator it is!
Growing up I was never taught good eating habits. I am part Italian and that part of my family always celebrated our accomplishments or various achievements and holidays with a good meal! Every Sunday was a feast with family and friends growing up. We would all get together and EAT great food! Everything we did centered on food. Bread, soda -pop, desserts and all those “finer things” were always ready and available in the kitchen. It was the go to food on your way out or the first thing you’d run to eat on the way in after school. I remember eating a lot of pop tarts, bad cereals and junk food for breakfast. No offense to my parents as they didn’t really know any better because they weren’t really taught the proper ways to eat as well.
I started working when I was young (15). My first job was at the grocery store. It was an easy place to grab anything healthy, but due to those bad habits growing up, I would get a candy bar and soda on my break (I worked there for several years and was surrounded by junk food). I wouldn’t necessarily say that I “struggled” with my weight growing up. I was usually the same as most friends. I noticed when I was an active kid (gymnastics or etc.) I stayed H.W.P, but times when I wasn’t doing anything may have jumped a bit in weight as a child/teenager. I was fine when I moved out at 17, but developed a bad habit of not really eating much due to a busy schedule of work and college classes.
When I really started to struggle with weight, it was my first pregnancy! I only weighed about 116 lbs. when I got pregnant and then somehow managed to give birth to my son at 196lbs!! It was like some ferry came and blessed me with the “eat whatever you want and it’s okay because your pregnant dust!!” That was the beginning of my struggle. I battled losing that extra “few” pounds of baby weight from my first son and then found out I was pregnant again! The second time around, I knew better! I still struggled and gained an additional 20+ lbs. more than what the doctor had hoped for and that left me with MORE extra baby weight! Since then I have carried that “mommy belly” around with me. It goes up and down but never goes away! I did however manage to lose most the weight. My children are much older now and I can’t use them as an excuse anymore for having the body fat percentage that I have. BUMMER! LOL
For the last several years I was a flight attendant. I’m not sure if you know anyone in the business, but for most part, they struggle with the right eating habits! As a flight attendant, your life is chaos. You want to start a routine, but your hours and job requirements make that incredibly difficult (especially if you have a family at home). I’m not saying that goes for all, but I know it goes for me and a few close friends in the business. I worked nights, so for me it was late hours which consisted of late meals after flying all day. Most of the time it was late night bar food at the hotel! While flying around all day, taking care of passengers and etc there’s no real time for sit down meals! If we did have time for meals, they definitely weren’t hot meals! I would eat anything I could find and occasionally I got lucky with a good meal if we pulled into the right airport. I did have the option of packing a bag, but our airline had no refrigerators and so we had to constantly ice our food bag if we chose that option. Is very difficult to keep things fresh in a food bag for several days at a time! All that was working nights! If I worked days, it was way worse. Getting up at 3 AM and sometimes 2 AM was not my ideal time for breakfast so I would skip. By the time I got to the hotel after flying all morning/afternoon, I was exhausted and would take a nap. If I was lucky I would wake up from that nap for dinner, but most of the time I would just sleep through the night. By morning I was starving! I’d grab a coffee and hope for decent food at the airport on the way to the plane IF I had time. To make a long story short, I always said that I would change my habits and change my life if I’d ever leave that job!
So, here I almost a year later as a hair stylist now and nothing has changed! My eating habits are still bad, only on a different schedule! I basically never eat breakfast or lunch, and then come home and binge eat on anything I can, i.e. chips, snacks and etc. I have had every excuse made to man as to why I haven’t changed my routine and life. It’s time for me to take action. It's time to start caring more about what’s important for my health and my future. I have two amazing sons and two “step” sons who mean so much to me and I want to be the best example I can to them for their future. Who better to do that, then their mother?!
Like I said before, I am turning 40 in September and I want this to be my turning point for my future. I have a great support system and I recently hooked up with Pat and Chris at The Max Muscle store in North Phoenix. They are a married couple. They are AWESOME! I couldn’t have asked for a better “team” to help me out. I had no idea of the resources available to consumers at the Max Muscle stores! If you live in Phoenix and have the chance to go say Hi, I suggest you do! You can ask lots of questions and they will be there to help you out and help you get started! They are so helpful, honest, and all around good people. They are off carefree highway next to Mountainside Fitness.
I want to wish all of you out there good luck along with myself and let’s go “break some chains”!
Cheers!
Marie
